GETTING your nails done always makes you feel luxurious - but there are some styles that can look cheap.

Thankfully, an elegance coach has revealed her top tips when it comes to getting a manicure.

Anna Bey shared on YouTube the things you have to avoid if you want to look put together and avoid looking tacky.

Your hands are often one of the first things people notice about you - so it's important to keep them looking clean and well-groomed.

To make sure you have elegant nails, the first thing is to make sure you're cleaning them often.

Unhygienic nails always look bad, so if you have longer nails make sure you clean underneath them.

Chipped nail polish is also a big no-no, the elegance coach said: It's a serious issue because it really does signal that a person is lazy."

"It's not a catastrophe if you have chipped nails for one day, but ladies, it's about you walking around with it and not fixing it that becomes a problem," explains Anna.

If you tend to do your nails at home and don't have the time to fix them every time there is a chip Anna recommends using gel polish as it lasts longer.

Moving on to nail colours, Anna said there are some that scream elegance and some that don't.

Elegant colours include french manicures - but be warned, if done the wrong way they can look cheap.

The elegance expert said to make sure your french manicure doesn't look tacky, make sure the white tip stays small.

Other elegant colours include classic red, burgundy, nude colours and pink shades or plum.

Tacky colours to steer clear of are anything that looks artificial such as blue, green or orange- and even nail art.

She adds: "I personally think it (nail art) looks a little bit juvenile and is not so much in the elegant category."

In terms of nail length, you should always stick to short or mid-length nails if you want to look elegant as you want them to look as natural as possible.
