Clockwork Nails It at Target: Now You Can Get a Robot 'Minicure' in DFW » Dallas Innovates

A robot company finally nailed it: Robots from San Francisco-based Clockwork are now providing manicures at select Target locations in Dallas-Fort Worth.

Instead of going to a salon, beauty enthusiasts can get a “quick yet high-quality polish change” for under $10 in under 10 minutes, the startup says.

Clockwork’s AI-powered robots use 3D technology “to give the perfect coat” for what can be described as a “minicure.” The company aims to disrupt the $800 billion beauty market by delivering “express beauty services for people on the go.”

The autonomous machines use cameras, data, and algorithms to paint your nails.

Clockwork launched in 2021, first with a pop-up store in San Francisco and then in the ZO lounge at the iconic 30 Rockefeller Center. Dallas-Fort Worth is the startup’s third test market for its “first of their kind” autonomous nail painters.

Locally, the robots are bookable at Target stores in Dallas’ Medallion Shopping Center and in Fort Worth’s Carroll Street and Cityview locations. But more are expected, a spokesperson says.

Pro tip: Arrive with bare, clean nails, ready to be polished. The robots use regular, non-gel polish “free of dibutyl phthalate, formaldehyde and toluene, and a number of other harmful substances,” according to the company.

The company is currently offering a discount for the first appointment on its booking site.

The DFW Alliance of Technology and Women held its 19th annual Executive Forum last week, urging attendees to "crack the courage code" and empower women in business. Afterward, DFW*ATW's president, Shanthi Rajaram, spoke with Dallas Innovates about her takeaways from the event—and how being "comfortable with the unknown" helped her start her own entrepreneurship journey.

"It’s just cool that a Texas-based AI and robotics company can help a Texas-based burrito company expand in ways we could only imagine just a few years ago," says Alex Eagle, Chief Executive Officer for Freebirds World Burrito.

The free, one-week trial of the company's PuduBot food delivery robot is open to Dallas restaurants, cafes, hotels, offices, hospitals, and other catering operators for a limited time. The robot navigates around tables with 3D obstacle avoidance technology and SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping). Oh, and it can sing "Happy Birthday," too.
