Pondering your nail polish colors for the season may not typically be what’s top of mind when you’re mapping out fresh fashion and beauty looks, but when you think about how a new manicure or pedicure can take an outfit to 0 from 100 (even more so when you’ve got the right stand-out colors), you come to realize just how key they are in topping off a well rounded, polished look. Just like with fashion and beauty techniques and finishes, the nail arena does indeed come with its own set of exciting trends worth exploring, and right now, the chrome nail polish trend is mirroring the metallics boom we’ve been seeing in apparel as well.

It tends to feel like there are two types of people when it comes to nails – Lovers of neutrals tend to stick with neutral, and lovers of color tend to stick with color. While it may seem like the chrome nail trend may cater only to punchy hues, you can nail the look with tones that skew more neutral such as silver, gold and grays as well. Of course, the trend does provide the perfect opportunity to play around with eye-catching shades such as royal blues, fuchsias and vibrant oranges. While chrome manicures in salons using powder technology can lean on the expensive side, nail polishes that instead lend a shimmery, metallic or chrome finish (while they don’t come with the ultra-mirrored effect of chrome powder) allow you to get the look on a budget all the same (and from home, if you wish).
